Tina Pavlou pledges social welfare reforms after appointment

Nicosia, Cyprus. Newly appointed Deputy Minister of Social Welfare Tina Pavlou pledged significant reforms and support for Cypriot families and vulnerable people during her swearing-in ceremony at the presidential palace on Thursday.

She succeeds Clea Papaellina, who has been appointed Deputy Culture Minister.

Commitment to social welfare

Pavlou said the government would stand by families in Cyprus who are suffering and need support.

She said she was proud to succeed what she described as worthy predecessors and would continue the work where Papaellina had left off.

Previous experience

Referring to her previous role as director of the Ayia Skepi drug rehabilitation centre, Pavlou said she identified with the work of the deputy ministry and its staff.

She said she considered it her duty to support less privileged people and expressed appreciation for the opportunity to take up the post.

Papaellina’s departure

Papaellina described the end of her tenure as a brief but meaningful journey.

She said that during her time as deputy minister, she had worked to implement a social policy that went beyond benefits by creating opportunities for participation, independent living, social inclusion and social rights.
