Limassol, Cyprus. A seven-metre statue of a winegrower was placed in its traditional location in Limassol’s municipal garden on Monday, ahead of the city’s 65th Wine Festival.

Festival preparations

The statue depicts a man in traditional Cypriot dress, wearing a waistcoat and vrakas, the traditional baggy trousers. He holds a traditional wine jug in one hand and a bunch of grapes in the other.

A local band accompanied the statue’s installation. Limassol mayor Yiannis Armeftis said preparations for this year’s festival were in their final stage.

Festival dates

Armeftis invited the public to attend the festival, which will begin on September 26 and continue until October 4.

He said he believed the 65th Wine Festival would be better than last year’s and invited people from across Cyprus to attend.
