Wizz Air named official airline partner of Mountain Games Cyprus 2026

Nicosia, Cyprus. Low-cost carrier Wizz Air has become the official airline partner of Mountain Games Cyprus 2026, a non-profit European sporting event scheduled to take place in the Troodos Mountains from September 23 to 26.

Travel support

The MountMed Institute, coordinator of the European project, announced the collaboration on Monday as part of efforts to increase international participation in the Erasmus+ Sport Programme-funded scheme.

Under the agreement, Wizz Air will support travel for athletes, volunteers, researchers and visitors from the 10 European countries represented in the project’s consortium through its route network.

The event will form part of the 12th European Week of Sport.

Participation and accessibility

The partnership is expected to broaden participation and attract visitors from across Europe, while supporting objectives related to inclusion, sustainable mobility and the promotion of Cyprus’ mountainous areas for outdoor recreation.

“We are delighted to support Mountain Games Cyprus 2026 as the official airline partner of the event,” Wizz Air Corporate Communications Manager Olivia Harangozo said.

“We believe in the power of sport to bring people and places together, and we are proud to help connect Europe with the mountains of Cyprus while supporting an initiative that promotes healthy lifestyles and the sustainable development of mountain communities,” Harangozo added.

European project

MountMed Institute Executive Director and Project Coordinator Stavros Kazamias said the partnership was an important milestone for the project, bringing athletes, visitors and partners closer together.

“Accessibility is a key factor in the success of an event with such a strong European dimension, and this collaboration significantly strengthens our ability to welcome participants from across the continent,” Kazamias said.

Mountain Games Cyprus 2026 brings together 10 partner organisations from 10 European countries, including sports federations, universities and civil society groups.
