Cyprus Digital Nomad Visa: eligibility and application
Who can apply for Cyprus Digital Nomad status, the income and evidence required, and how the permit, family rights and renewal work.

In brief: The Cyprus Digital Nomad Visa is for nationals outside the EU and EEA who work remotely for an employer abroad or provide remote services to clients outside Cyprus. On the checked date, the Migration Department is again accepting applications and the scheme cap is 500 permits.
Applicant criteria
Work must be performed through telecommunications and must not be employment by a Cyprus employer or services to a client established in Cyprus. Employees and self-employed applicants prove their status through different contracts and records.
The official minimum stable monthly net income on the checked date is €3500 after tax and contributions. The required amount increases for family members under the official scheme; use the current list rather than an old article.
Application and evidence
An applicant files at the central Migration Department office in Nicosia within three months of arrival, or may change status while lawfully resident where the rules allow. The file must be complete and foreign documents officially translated and certified.
Evidence includes remote employment or service contracts, income, accommodation and the other items in the checklist. Biometrics and a signature are collected for the card.
Duration, fees and family
The first permit is issued for one year and renewal can be granted for a further maximum period of two years. The official examination estimate is five to seven weeks for a complete file.
On the checked date, issue or renewal costs €70 and first registration in the Aliens Register costs another €70. Family members may obtain residence for the same period but cannot work or conduct economic activity in Cyprus through the dependent status.
Renewal and the tax boundary
A renewal application should be filed at least one month before expiry with updated evidence. The quota, income amount, document list and submission office are variable and must be checked again.
Residence exceeding 183 days can have tax consequences, but tax residence depends on the complete rules and facts. Do not treat an immigration permit as an automatic tax opinion.
Checks before you apply
- confirm nationality outside the EU and EEA;
- confirm that the employer or clients are outside Cyprus;
- calculate net income and the family uplift;
- prepare contracts, banking evidence, translation and certification;
- recheck the cap, fees and timing immediately before applying.
Break down the working model
The programme is designed for remote work for employers or clients outside Cyprus, in accordance with official criteria. Please describe who is paying, where the counterparty is registered, what services are being provided, and whether there are any local clients. The job title alone does not prove compliance with the business model.
An employee must provide evidence of their employment relationship and authorisation to work remotely; a contractor must provide contracts and evidence of the sustainability of their business; and a business owner must provide evidence of the company’s structure and their role within it. Documents must be consistent with bank receipts and declared income, rather than existing merely as separate formalities.
If part of the work relates to the Cypriot market, obtain a personalised assessment before submitting your application. Do not reclassify local employment as remote work. Immigration status, business registration, social security contributions and taxes each address different issues.
Income, accommodation and insurance
Check the current threshold and calculation method in the official guidelines. Gross and net income, regular payments and one-off balances are not the same thing. Additional requirements may apply to families; specify the currency, period and supporting documents.
Accommodation must be genuine and properly documented. Do not sign a long-term tenancy agreement until you fully understand the procedure and the refund terms. Check the address, the parties involved, the payments due and whether the document can be used for your application; verbal confirmation from the landlord may not be sufficient.
Assess the policy in terms of its geographical cover, duration, covered persons, exclusions and programme requirements. The ‘visa insurance’ label is not proof of cover. For chronic conditions and families, check the medical eligibility separately, rather than relying solely on a formal letter.
Family and actual living circumstances
Family members receive documents through their own procedures, linked to the main applicant’s status. Prepare certificates, legalisation and translations; check ages and dependency status. The possibility of accompanying the applicant should not automatically be treated as a right to work.
Before moving, assess schools, healthcare, housing, transport and a contingency fund in case of delays. The programme addresses an immigration route but does not guarantee a bank account, tenancy or tax registration. Each system will require its own evidence and have its own deadlines.
Keep a record of the whole family’s residence and travel history. A prolonged absence of the main applicant may affect dependants. If there are changes to marital status, custody arrangements or family composition, do not wait for an extension; check your obligation to notify the authorities and explore alternative status options.
Taxes and renewals as separate matters
The Digital Nomad permit does not produce an automatic tax conclusion. Days spent in the country, centre of interests, contracts and the rules of another country all require separate analysis. Keep a calendar and seek specialist advice before the year is over.
To renew, update your employment contracts, income, insurance and address in advance. Confirm that your activities still fall within the relevant category. Do not rely on your previous application if you have changed employers, acquired local clients or your family composition has changed.
Keep track of the official status of your application and the quota. Paying an agent does not secure a place unless the authorities have confirmed your application. Keep your case number and receipts, and if your application is refused, assess the written grounds and the timeframe for your next legal action.
