How long is the flight to Cyprus: direct flights and connecting flights

Current estimated journey times to Larnaca and Paphos from Europe, Russia, the CIS countries and neighbouring states. We break down direct flights, stopovers and how to calculate the total journey time correctly.

How long is the flight to Cyprus: direct flights and connecting flights

Checked: 13 September 2026.

How to interpret the stated flight time

The time shown on your ticket is the scheduled duration from the aircraft’s departure from the stand to its arrival at the stand, not just the minutes spent in the air. It includes taxiing and the usual schedule buffer. Therefore, the actual flight may be shorter, but when arranging pick-ups, transfers and check-in, always use the arrival time shown in your booking as a guide.

Below are guidelines based on timetables available on 13 September 2026. They give an order of magnitude rather than guaranteeing a specific result for any given day. The season, wind direction, chosen airport, flight route and the airline’s decisions all affect the duration. You should check the specific flight for the specific date.

Cyprus is served by Larnaca (LCA) and Paphos (PFO) airports. A single departure city may only have a direct flight to one of these, and flight frequencies are usually lower in winter than in summer. Compare the flight with the journey to your accommodation: a shorter flight to an inconvenient airport does not always make the journey quicker.

Direct flights from various destinations in Europe

Allow around 1 hour 40 minutes from Athens to Larnaca. A direct Austrian flight from Vienna is listed as 3 hours, whilst Lufthansa Group flights from Frankfurt take approximately 3 hours 40–45 minutes. These are useful guidelines for Central and Southern Europe, but the return flight is often longer due to wind conditions and a different route.

From London, British Airways quotes a flight time of around 4 hours 45 minutes to Larnaca. Cyprus Airways operates a direct flight from Paris CDG to Larnaca, and from July 2026 the route will also be sold as a codeshare with Air France; a reasonable estimate for this leg is around 4 hours 15 minutes. From Rome, a direct flight usually takes about 3 hours.

For Warsaw, Prague, Budapest, Bucharest, Amsterdam and other European cities, the list of airlines varies between the summer and winter timetables. The fact that a country is included in the airport’s route network does not necessarily mean there is a daily flight from your chosen city. Before booking, check the airline’s calendar and make sure you’ve selected a non-stop flight rather than one with a stopover.

How to fly from Russia at present

As of 13 September 2026, there are no regular direct flights between airports in Russia and those in the Republic of Cyprus. EU restrictions prevent Russian carriers from using EU airports and airspace. Therefore, historical figures for the direct Moscow–Larnaca flight can no longer be used as a reference for current travel.

One available option from Moscow is an Air Serbia itinerary to Larnaca via Belgrade. The flight from Moscow to Belgrade takes approximately 3 hours, and from Belgrade to Larnaca around 2 hours 30 minutes; a connection time must also be factored in. Even with a favourable timetable, the entire journey takes significantly more than 6 hours, whilst a specific ticket may involve a journey of 8–12 hours or an overnight stopover.

From St Petersburg and other Russian cities, you’ll first need a flight to an operational transit hub, such as Belgrade, Yerevan or Tbilisi, followed by a flight to Larnaca. Check both flights, the connection and whether you’ll need to check in again. If booking individual tickets, allow extra time for collecting and re-checking your luggage.

Direct options from CIS countries and neighbouring states

Kazakhstan gained seasonal direct flights operated by Air Astana in 2026. Hermes Airports quotes a flight time of approximately 5 hours 40 minutes from Astana and approximately 6 hours 5 minutes from Almaty; the service is scheduled to run until at least September. As of 13 September, a flight from Almaty is listed on the Larnaca timetable, but for later dates, you’ll need to check again to see if the service continues.

Wizz Air and FLYONE Armenia operate flights from Yerevan to Larnaca; the typical flight time for the direct leg is around 2 hours 15 minutes. There is a direct service from Chișinău, and Wizz Air has announced an increase in frequency to five flights a week from 18 September 2026. Frequency does not guarantee the same days in every month, so the timetable remains the main source of information.

From Tbilisi, Georgian Airways currently offers direct flights taking approximately 2 hours 10–20 minutes. Georgia is not part of the CIS, but it is an important transit and departure point for Russian-speaking travellers. For Minsk, a direct option should not be assumed: restrictions on Belarusian carriers and the changing route network mean that a suitable connection must be found for the required date.

Why the same pair of cities yields different results

The timetable uses the local time of each airport. In summer, Cyprus operates on UTC+3, whilst many European capitals operate on UTC+2 or UTC+1; in winter, the time difference may change. You cannot simply subtract the hours on the clock face. It is more reliable to use the flight duration already calculated by the airline or to convert the departure and arrival times to a single time zone.

The outbound and return routes are not symmetrical. Wind, closed airspace, waiting for clearance and airport congestion can alter the route. A difference of 20–40 minutes between the outbound and return journeys is normal. A significant difference is more often due to a stopover, an overnight stay or the fact that the search engine is not showing a direct flight.

Paphos Airport is particularly dependent on the tourist season. In summer, a direct flight to PFO can shorten the journey to the west coast, whilst in winter the same departure city may only be connected to LCA. Check the airport code: the word ‘Cyprus’ does not indicate where the plane will land.

How to calculate the entire journey including a connecting flight

Add up the journey to the airport, the recommended arrival time, the first leg, the connection, the second leg, passport control, baggage collection and the transfer in Cyprus. This calculation provides a more practical answer than simply adding up the hours spent in the air. For international departures, follow the guidelines provided by your airport and airline, rather than a general rule from an outdated article.

With a through ticket, the carrier itself sets the minimum permissible connection time and is obliged to offer a solution in the event of a disruption, subject to the applicable terms and conditions. Separate tickets do not usually offer this protection. Allow plenty of time, especially if you need to change terminals, go through border control, collect your luggage or re-check it for your next flight.

Do not plan your route through a transit country based solely on the shortest travel time. Check your eligibility for entry or visa-free transit with your passport, the validity of your documents and the baggage regulations. Transit through an airport is not always possible without leaving the country, and changing terminals or having a separate ticket may require a full border crossing.

Final check before booking and departure

First, compare the LCA and PFO, then apply the ‘direct flights’ filter and view the details of each result. Make sure all flight segments are available on your chosen date, check the actual operating carrier for code-share flights and the fare rules. Then estimate the total travel time from home to your hotel, rather than just the main figure next to the flight.

A few days before your trip, double-check your booking, and on the day of departure, check the airport display board and the carrier’s announcements. Regional circumstances can cause routes and timetables to change rapidly. Hermes Airports strongly recommends checking the details with the airline or your travel agent; the fact that a flight is available today is no guarantee that it will be available on a future date.

Make a note of your flight numbers, transfer rules and the airline’s contact details. If a flight segment is cancelled or rescheduled, do not estimate the new journey time based on the original duration. Recalculate your connection and transfer times – this way, the answer to ‘how long is the flight?’ will remain useful for your journey.
