Nicosia International Airport is situated to the west of Nicosia and was Cyprus’ main airport prior to the Turkish invasion in 1974. It’s now currently in the buffer zone that separates South and occupied Northern Cyprus.

After the events of 1974 Nicosia airport was closed to civil aviation and is now being used as headquarters for UN forces.

Nearest airport to Nicosia

Most flights from Europe and Russia arrive at Larnaca which is about half an hour’s drive and is the nearest to Nicosia, being 40 km away.

Paphos is Cyprus’ other international airport, 140 km from Nicosia. Most flights from the UK and budget airlines fly here and driving here from Nicosia takes around 1 1/2 hours.

Both Paphos and Larnaca airports are serviced by Hermes Airports and have a modern infrastructure, including car parks, duty-free shops, cafes and fast food chains, as well as service centres for car rental. Arrivals and flight schedules can be checked on the Cyprus Airport’s official website.

If you are arriving from Turkey, there’s a direct flight to Ercan airport, located in Northern Cyprus. Remember that entering southern Cyprus from the occupied territory is against the law. Official flights from Turkey are possible only with transfers and only using Larnaca and Paphos International Airports.

Getting to Larnaca Airport from Nicosia:

The easiest and quickest method, but undoubtedly the most expensive, is by taxi, which can be booked at the hotel reception or help desk. Larnaca Airport to Nicosia by taxi is even easier as a taxi service point is located right by the exit.

A scheduled Express bus to Larnaca Airport departs from Kapnos, (Kapnos Airport Shuttle station). Timetables and routes are on the bus company’s official website. Express buses are the most economical way to transfer.

Airport Taxis, in contrast with the express buses, will collect you from anywhere in ​​Nicosia. As a rule, taxis provide an hourly shuttle service. Nicosia from Paphos Airport:

Direct transfer from Nicosia to the airport is possible by taxi and express buses. Paphos Airport taxis carry passengers to transfer in Limassol.
