Paphos, Cyprus. A 22-year-old man was arrested in Paphos on Saturday night on suspicion of offences including possession of offensive weapons and explosive materials, police said. A Paphos district court issued a one-day remand order on Sunday.
Traffic stop and vehicle findings
Police said the incident happened at about 9.15pm when traffic police stopped a car driven by the suspect. The vehicle was reported to be missing a front registration plate and to have heavily tinted windows.
Items recovered and arrest
Police said a search of the vehicle uncovered two knives, a wooden bat, a number of hunting cartridges and a magazine containing military ammunition. A full military cartridge was also found on the suspect during a body search, police added.
The man was arrested at the scene for alleged evident offences including carrying knives, illegal possession and transport of offensive weapons, and unlawful possession and transport of explosive materials.

Police said the suspect was brought before the Paphos district court on Sunday, which issued a one-day remand order.
