Nicosia, Cyprus. A 22-year-old convict was injured on Friday after being attacked by two other inmates at the central prisons. The justice ministry said the incident is under investigation.
Incident and immediate response
In a statement, the justice ministry said the attack occurred at around 7.25pm under circumstances that remain under investigation. Prison staff intervened immediately and brought the situation under control.
Medical treatment
The injured man was transported by ambulance to Nicosia general hospital, where he received first aid treatment and was later kept in for observation as a precaution. Authorities said the response was carried out without delay and medical assistance was provided promptly.
Police notified and investigation launched
The prisons department informed the police immediately after the attack. Officers attended the central prisons to examine the scene and begin taking statements as part of the investigation. The ministry said efforts are focused on determining how the incident unfolded and whether any additional factors contributed.
