Annita Demetriou receives congratulations after re-election as House president

Nicosia, Cyprus. Annita Demetriou received congratulations on Thursday after being re-elected as House president, with political figures in Cyprus and abroad sending messages of support for her second term.


Messages from abroad

Armenian parliament president Alen Simonyan said Demetriou’s renewed mandate was “a testament to the trust placed in [her] leadership, dedication and vision”.

He added that he looked forward to continuing close cooperation and strengthening the ties between Armenia and Cyprus.

Manfred Weber, leader of the European People’s Party, the European political grouping to which Demetriou’s party Disy belongs, wished her continuous success and praised her strong vision for Cyprus.

Greek Food Minister Margaritis Schinas, a former European Commission vice president for protecting the European way of life, said Demetriou’s re-election showed that seriousness, reason, and moderation have not been lost in Cyprus.

Messages from Cyprus

Attorney-general Georges Savvides wished Demetriou a successful and productive term and said he looked forward to the continuation and further improvement of the relations between the House of Representatives and the legal service.

Former president Nicos Anastasiades described Demetriou’s re-election as well-deserved and said the renewed trust in her recognised the responsibility and consistency with which she has carried out her duties.

Disy member of the European Parliament Michalis Hadjipantela said Demetriou’s re-election constituted a vote of confidence in her work, consistency, and the responsible stance she has demonstrated over the years.

Dipa leader and former House president Marios Garoyian said he wholeheartedly wished her every success in carrying out her duties, with the effective functioning of parliament, the strengthening of its institutions, and the promotion of parliamentary diplomacy as guiding principles.

Former Disy leader Averof Neophytou offered his warm congratulations and said he was certain that during her new term she would continue to meet the demands of her institutional role while honouring the principles and traditions of the party.
