Evrychou, Cyprus. Bishop Neophytos of Morphou made a series of disputed claims about Nikola Tesla during a liturgy at the Prophet Elias chapel on Thursday, including that Tesla, rather than Thomas Edison, “invented electricity”.
Claims during liturgy
Neophytos described Tesla as “the greatest inventor of the 20th century” and said the Serbian inventor’s father had been a Serbian Orthodox priest.
“The greatest inventor of the 20th century was a Serb, Nikola Tesla. His father was a priest, Serbian Orthodox. He is the one who invented the electricity we have, he is not Edison as the Jews tell us,” he said.
The bishop also claimed Tesla was “the father of computers” and had developed methods to trigger earthquakes, bring rain and cause drought.
Tesla’s scientific work
Neophytos said Tesla had concluded that “everything is frequencies”, and claimed that God had placed frequencies within creation for humanity to understand.
He also said that many people believed Tesla had received divine enlightenment, adding that God had created the world “for good” and intended people to uncover its underlying principles.
Tesla was a Serbian inventor and electrical engineer whose work on alternating current systems transformed the generation and transmission of electricity.
Electricity was not invented by either Tesla or Edison, although both made major contributions to science through different inventions and innovations.
