Kyiv, Ukraine. The body of a Ukrainian woman suspected of carrying out a bomb attack targeting wealthy Ukrainian-born businessman Vadym Yermolaiev in Monaco last week was found near Kyiv, Ukrainska Pravda reported on Tuesday. The outlet, citing law enforcement sources, said the woman had been shot and her body was found close to 11 p.m. local time on Monday.
Suspect identified in Interpol notice
Ukrainska Pravda reported that the woman was Anastasiia Berezovska, 39, who was named as the chief suspect in an Interpol Red Notice. The notice said she was Ukrainian, spoke German and was wanted by authorities in Monaco for attempted murder, placing an explosive device in a public place with criminal intent, and criminal conspiracy.
Attack and escape route
Monaco’s deputy prosecutor said last week that the attacker had left the principality on foot to nearby France and then fled by car to Germany through several European countries, including Italy.
Victims and detentions
Yermolaiev, his partner and son were wounded in the attack on Monday last week, according to sources cited in the report. Ukrainska Pravda, citing another law enforcement source, said two suspects had already been detained in connection with the case.
Suspects and official response
According to Ukrainska Pravda, one of the detained suspects is an officer with the Main Directorate of Intelligence (HUR), while the other is a former law enforcement officer. Ukrainian police and HUR did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Background on Yermolaiev
Yermolaiev was granted Cypriot nationality in 2019 and was placed under Ukrainian sanctions in 2023. Ukrainian media reported that this was for doing business in Russian-occupied Crimea.
