Police announced the start of campaign against the use of fireworks and illegal Easter bonfires. Police explains that campaign is mainly oriented at the teenagers. Officers already caught 8 young men who were using fireworks and started bonfires.
In the meantime, a 27-year-old man was arrested in Nicosia, who had fireworks in possession.
The Easter bonfires is an ancient religious tradition in Cyprus. However, throwing fireworks, pressurized containers or other explosive materials poses high risks and has nothing to do with the religion. Only last year, there were 22 reported fires during the Easter holidays.
