CTP leader urges federal solution in meeting with UN official at Antalya diplomacy forum

Antalya, Turkey. Turkish Cypriot opposition political party CTP leader Sila Usar Incirli met United Nations undersecretary-general for peacebuilding Rosemary DiCarlo and said a federal solution is needed for the Cyprus problem. The meeting took place on the sidelines of the Antalya diplomacy forum.

CTP meeting with DiCarlo

According to the CTP, the pair discussed “the current status and future of the Cyprus solution process, changing geopolitical balances, and diplomatic efforts” to reach a solution. The party said its commitment to “a permanent and sustainable solution based on a bicommunal, bizonal federation based on political equality in Cyprus” was emphasised.

DiCarlo meeting with Erhurman

DiCarlo earlier met Turkish Cypriot leader Tufan Erhurman on the sidelines of the same forum. Erhurman’s office described the meeting as “productive” and said they discussed confidence-building measures devised between Cyprus’ two sides and “the latest situation regarding the Cyprus problem”.

Upcoming UN meetings on the island

The meetings come as UN undersecretary-general for peace operations Jean-Pierre Lacroix is expected to hold similar meetings with figures from both sides of Cyprus while on the island in the coming days.

What do you think should be prioritised in the next round of talks on the Cyprus problem?
