Cypriot return trips and tourist arrivals rise in January, Cystat says

Nicosia, Cyprus. The number of Cypriot residents returning from trips abroad rose to 170,045 in January, up 15 per cent from the same period last year, the statistical service Cystat said on Tuesday. Tourist arrivals for holidays reached 121,625, an 8.5 per cent increase year on year.

The largest share of returning residents came from Greece, accounting for 27.6 per cent, followed by the United Kingdom at 8.5 per cent and Poland at 5.8 per cent.

Holidays were the main reason for travel, representing 82.2 per cent of trips. Business travel accounted for 16.3 per cent, while 0.7 per cent cited other reasons.

Tourist arrivals to Cyprus

Cystat reported 121,625 tourists arrived to spend holidays on the island in January. Holidays were also the main reason for travel to Cyprus at 60.7 per cent, followed by visits to family and friends at 22.8 per cent, while 16.2 per cent travelled for business purposes.

The largest number of tourists arrived from Poland, with 22,575 visitors representing 18.6 per cent of total arrivals, an increase of 43 per cent compared with January 2025. Israeli tourists totalled 21,981, accounting for 18.1 per cent of arrivals, a 7.3 per cent decrease from last year.

Tourists from the UK made up 16.3 per cent of arrivals, while 14.5 per cent were from Greece. Arrivals from Germany rose by 82.4 per cent to 7,504.
