Nicosia, Cyprus. Cyprus’ civil aviation department said on Wednesday that the Republic of Cyprus is not among the European countries causing aviation delays in 2026, responding to Israeli media reports.
The department said increased traffic in Eastern Mediterranean airspace, including redirected flights linked to the Middle East crisis, should not be confused with air traffic control delays.

“The [department] wishes to clarify its position regarding air traffic control in Cyprus and to stress that the Republic of Cyprus is not among the countries listed as delay producers in Europe for 2026,” it said.
It added that Eastern Mediterranean airspace has recorded higher traffic volumes during the ongoing summer season.
Israeli media report
Israeli newspaper Israel Hayom had reported extensive delays in Cyprus and Greece affecting flights to and from Israel.
According to the newspaper, Eastern Mediterranean airspace was operating at its limits, with up to 37,000 flights recorded daily in recent days.
It said the Middle East crisis and related security concerns had increased pressure on Greek and Cypriot airspace, resulting in longer delays for passengers.
