Cypriot travel agent says some long-haul package prices fall despite higher fuel costs

Nicosia, Cyprus. Some long-haul travel packages have become cheaper in certain cases this year despite higher fuel costs and uncertainty linked to the war in the Middle East, according to Akis Kelepeshis. The honorary president of the Association of Cypriot Travel Agents said pricing trends vary by destination and availability.

Mixed pricing trends across destinations

Speaking to Politis, Kelepeshis said higher operating costs and cautious demand are resulting in both price increases and discounts, depending on the destination and available capacity.

He cited Bali as an example, where a trip that could have cost around €2,000 if booked in December or January can now be found for €200, €300, or even €500 less.

Kelepeshis said this does not represent a general collapse in prices, but reflects shifting supply and demand as organisers seek to fill seats during a period of geopolitical uncertainty.

European destinations see small increases

Kelepeshis said more popular European destinations have recorded small price increases, driven mainly by fuel and energy costs, broader inflationary pressures, and limited availability.

He added that prices have fallen in areas where demand has been weaker than expected.

Cypriot travellers more cautious

Kelepeshis said Cypriot travellers continue to book holidays but are being more careful, comparing prices, asking more questions, reviewing what each package includes, and considering safety, access, and the general situation at their destination.

He said Greece remains among the top choices for Cypriot holidaymakers because it is familiar, close, and easy to reach. Interest also remains strong in Italy, Austria, and Switzerland, while Romania and Bulgaria are gaining popularity as lower-cost alternatives.
