Nicosia, Cyprus. Cyprus recorded an employment rate of 81.3% in 2025, above the EU average of 76.1%, according to a Eurostat report released on Friday.
Cyprus exceeds EU average as bloc employment reaches record
Eurostat said employment across the European Union reached a record high since the start of the time series in 2009. A total of 197.7 million people aged 20 to 64 were employed in the EU, up 0.3 percentage points from 2024 and 0.8 percentage points from 2023.
Cyprus employment rises from 2024 levels
Cyprus’ overall employment rate increased to 81.3% in 2025 from 79.8% in 2024.
Male and female employment rates in Cyprus
Employment among men in Cyprus rose to 86.4% in 2025 from 85% in 2024. Female employment increased to 76.3% from 75% over the same period. The gender employment gap in Cyprus was 10.1 percentage points in 2025.
EU gender gap persists across most member states
Across the EU, men continued to have higher employment rates than women in almost all member states, with Lithuania the only exception. The EU employment rate for men was 80.9%, with the highest levels in Malta, the Czech Republic and the Netherlands. For women, the EU employment rate was 71.3%, led by Estonia, Lithuania and Sweden.
