Cyprus, Greece and Jordan reaffirm cooperation and stability at trilateral summit in Amman

Amman, Jordan. The leaders of Cyprus, Greece and Jordan reaffirmed their commitment to deeper regional cooperation and stability as they concluded their fifth trilateral summit in Amman. The talks took place amid heightened geopolitical tensions in the eastern Mediterranean and the Middle East.

Summit focus and framework

Cyprus President Nikos Christodoulides met with Jordan’s King Abdullah II and Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis for the summit.

Government spokesman Konstantinos Letymbiotis said the summit came at a time when regional developments are directly affecting security, energy, migration, maritime routes and economic resilience.

The three leaders said closer cooperation between like-minded countries is essential to address shared challenges, emphasising coordination, mutual trust and adherence to international law.

Progress since 2018 and practical cooperation

The leaders reviewed progress since the trilateral framework was launched in 2018 and discussed ways to deepen practical cooperation, with an emphasis on delivering tangible results.

EU-Jordan relations and Cyprus role

The summit included discussions on relations between the European Union and Jordan following recent high-level engagements involving regional leaders.

Cyprus reiterated that it is the EU member state geographically closest to Jordan and the wider region, and pledged to continue supporting stronger EU-Jordan ties.

Christodoulides said the summit coincided with Cyprus’ presidency of the Council of the EU, calling the trilateral partnership an important bridge to the European Union. He said cooperation is key in tackling migration, climate change and the energy transition.

Regional developments and de-escalation

The leaders exchanged views on developments including Iran, Gaza, the West Bank, Jerusalem, Lebanon, Syria and Iraq.

They stressed the importance of de-escalation and avoiding further spillover of crises, while reaffirming their commitment to peace, stability and respect for sovereignty.

King Abdullah warned of the risks posed by continued conflict, saying Jordan rejects Israeli measures aimed at exploiting the situation to create new facts on the ground in Jerusalem, the West Bank and Gaza, and he called for sustained humanitarian access to Gaza.
