Nicosia, Cyprus. Holiday bookings for the upcoming summer season in Cyprus have fallen by 25%, according to Cyprus hoteliers association director general Christos Angelides. He said reservations are increasing slowly, raising concerns after cancellations over the past two months.
Bookings and occupancy rates
Angelides said hotel occupancy rates for the summer currently range between 40% and 50%, compared with nearly 75% during the same period last year. He said the pace of reservations was not enough to reverse the cancellation trend and that the situation was being closely monitored.
Economic impact and jobs
Angelides said many thousands of families and professionals depend on tourism and that protecting jobs should be a priority for both the industry and the state.
Revenue concerns and demand outlook
He said that at the end of July 2025, hotel occupancy rates stood at 95%, but added that current demand does not justify further optimism. He described the situation as involving significant figures and a substantial loss in revenue.
Airline schedules and fuel costs
Angelides said rising kerosene prices are prompting airlines to reassess destination priorities and warned that Cyprus may not be among them, with several airlines already reducing their schedules. He said a plane from northern Europe or the United Kingdom can fly to Cyprus once a day, while flights to competing destinations such as Spain can operate up to three times a day if there is demand, adding that if there are flights, demand will follow.
How do you expect airline schedules to affect demand for Cyprus this summer?
