Cyprus police announce road closures for informal EU leaders meeting on April 24-25

Nicosia, Cyprus. Cyprus police will implement tight security measures on Thursday and Friday for an informal meeting of EU heads of state or government, with road closures affecting Nicosia, Larnaca and Famagusta. The police urged the public to be patient and follow instructions.


Traffic restrictions in Ayia Napa on Thursday

Roads around the Ayia Napa marina, including part of Ayia Thekla avenue, will be closed on Thursday from 4pm to 11pm.

Road closures in Nicosia on Friday

On Friday, roads around the conference centre in Nicosia will be closed from 7.30am to 6pm, particularly Aglandja avenue from the junction with Limassol avenue to the Akademias avenue roundabout.

Meeting agenda and participants

The EU leaders’ meeting will focus on the geopolitical environment and Europe’s response, and the multiannual financial framework 2028-2034. Leaders will be joined by key regional partners in the Middle East for an informal working lunch on April 24 to discuss the situation, shared challenges and emerging opportunities for cooperation.

Chairing and hosting

The informal meeting will be chaired by European Council President António Costa. President Nikos Christodoulides is hosting the meeting in the framework of Cyprus’ EU presidency.
