Nicosia, Cyprus. Cyprus’ retail sector recorded annual growth in both sales value and volume in June 2026, according to figures released by the Statistical Service of Cyprus (Cystat) on Monday. Retail trade turnover excluding motor vehicles rose by 8.3 per cent in value and 5.5 per cent in volume compared with June 2025.
June retail performance
Cystat said the results pointed to continued consumer spending resilience despite higher inflation in recent months.
The June figures followed annual increases recorded in May, when the retail turnover value index rose by 9.8 per cent and the volume index increased by 7.5 per cent.
Comparison with EU data
The June data followed Cyprus’ strongest monthly increase in retail trade volume among European Union member states in May, according to Eurostat.
Cyprus’ retail trade volume increased by 3.7 per cent between April and May 2026. This compared with monthly increases of 0.2 per cent in the euro area and 0.5 per cent across the EU.
On an annual basis, retail trade volumes in May rose by 1.6 per cent in the euro area and 1.9 per cent across the EU.
Within the euro area, sales volumes of food, drinks and tobacco increased by 0.6 per cent in May, while non-food products excluding automotive fuel rose by 0.1 per cent. Automotive fuel sales volumes in specialised stores declined by 0.5 per cent.
Supermarket sales
Supermarkets were among the main contributors to retail activity in Cyprus during June.
The value index for food, beverages and tobacco sold in non-specialised stores, including supermarkets, increased by 5.9 per cent from June 2025. The corresponding volume index rose by 4.9 per cent.
