Cyprus to open third home energy efficiency plan proposals in September with €20 million budget

Nicosia, Cyprus. The government will accept proposals in September for the third home energy efficiency plan, with a budget of €20 million, the energy ministry announced on Friday.

Funding and programme totals

Energy Minister Michael Damianos said the new Save-Upgrade Houses tender will bring the amount allocated through the Thalia programme to €85 million.

Application processing changes

Damianos said problems arose during the previous tender during the examination of applications due to a large number of applications for payments, which led to delays. He said the process has been remedied and that examination of applications this time will be faster and more efficient.
Ministry officials said low-risk applications could be approved without on-site checks, contributing to expediting the process.

Support levels and eligible investments

Damianos said the plan provides financial support with a maximum of €32,000 per house, depending on the type of investment.
Eligible investments include thermal insulation, window frames, shading systems, heating and cooling systems, solar water heating systems, photovoltaics and specialised services.

Priority groups and eligibility conditions

Damianos said emphasis is being given to vulnerable and mountain area households and refugee settlements, with their funding increased by 20 per cent.
The plan is for individuals who wish to upgrade existing homes built before January 1, 2008. Preconditions include having an existing electricity account with a residential tariff.
