Nicosia, Cyprus. The Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission (CySEC) organised initiatives to promote financial literacy as part of the World Investor Week 2025 awareness campaign. The efforts included an online lecture delivered by CySEC chairman George Theocharides.
Lecture at the Open University of Cyprus
Theocharides delivered the online session at the Open University of Cyprus as part of CySEC’s broader campaign, which placed particular emphasis on improving financial knowledge among young people. The lecture highlighted financial literacy as a foundation for informed decision-making in modern financial markets.
Social media risks and sustainable investment concerns
Theocharides addressed risks arising from social media and finfluencers, warning about the growing influence of online personalities on investment behaviour. The discussion also covered sustainable investments and the risks of greenwashing, stressing the need for investors to carefully assess claims related to environmental and social impact.
Crypto-assets, fraud recognition, and investor protection
The lecture explored crypto-assets and prudent money management, focusing on the volatility and complexity associated with digital assets. It also addressed recognising investment fraud and investor protection tips, aiming to help participants identify and avoid scams.
Public availability of the lecture
CySEC said the initiative reflected its continued efforts to strengthen investor awareness, particularly among younger audiences entering financial markets. The full lecture has been made publicly available online as part of the regulator’s ongoing educational outreach.
