Nicosia, Cyprus. The Electricity Authority of Cyprus said on Thursday it will continue installing smart electricity meters across the island throughout June. The rollout is part of a national programme under a contract with Cyta aiming for 400,000 installations by the end of June next year.
Installation areas
In Nicosia, installations will target the Strovolos industrial area, the residential area west of the GSP stadium up to Alexandroupoli Street, and sections along Iosif Hadjiosif Avenue, Stavrou Avenue, and Athens Avenue.
Work will also take place in the village of Lythrodontas.
In Limassol, smart meters will be fitted in the area between the Nicosia-Limassol motorway and Amathus and Vasilios Georgiou Avenues, extending to Christakis Kranos Street.
In Larnaca, installations will occur in areas bordered by Grivas Digenis, Artemis, Faneromeni, and Thessaloniki Avenues, as well as across the suburb of Livadia.
In the Famagusta district, work will be conducted in Paralimni, particularly around April 1 Avenue, Saint Spyridon Street, and roads leading to Dherynia.
Supply interruptions
The EAC said electricity supply may be interrupted for up to 20 minutes during meter replacements and apologised for any inconvenience.
National programme
The installation programme follows a 2024 contract signed by the EAC and the Cyprus Telecommunications Authority, Cyta, for the installation and subsequent operation of smart meters across Cyprus.
The contract provides for the installation of a total of 400,000 smart meters by the end of June next year, at a cost of €125 per smart meter.
