Paphos, Cyprus. Episkopi Paphos Environmental Centre has announced a series of spring activities in May, including events focused on geotourism and silk culture, as well as weekly classes.
Peak bloom season and upcoming activities
The centre said late April and early May marks “peak bloom season” in Cyprus, with flowers visible across the Ezousa valley. It said the programme offers opportunities to explore nature and learn more about the environment.
Geotourism presentation scheduled for May 17
The centre will host a presentation titled Geotourism in Cyprus: Travel Differently, Experience More on May 17 at 11 a.m. Environmental Geologist and Science Communicator Konstantia Achilleos will speak about Cyprus’ landscapes, history and cultural layers, and how geology influences features including mountain peaks, waterfalls and ancient settlements.
The centre said the presentation will also cover how human stories, including myth, memory and living tradition, are connected to landscapes, and how geotourism can create place-based travel experiences. It said the session will be held in Greek and English, is open to all, and costs €6 per person. Registrations can be made at www.epeicentre.com/contact or by calling 26 642234.
Silk culture workshop planned for May 31
On May 31, silk-crafter Simoni Christoforou will lead a workshop titled Silk Culture in Cyprus, Past & Present. The centre said the workshop will focus on the silk worm (Bombyx mori), the properties of silk, and practices related to caring for the species and harvesting silk.
After a presentation, participants will receive hands-on guidance on making silk flowers that can be sewn onto clothing, hats and bags.
Friday QiGong and TaiChi class and on-site activities
The centre said it also offers a Friday QiGong and TaiChi class at 3 p.m., led by Mei Yeung. The 90-minute class includes breaks and does not require pre-registration.
Visitors can also visit the shop for medicinal and skincare ointments, balms and soaps, and drop off rinsed aluminium and steel cans at the Cans-for-Kids collection bank in the car park.
