Akrotiri, Cyprus. The interior ministry said on Friday that the evacuation order for the British Akrotiri base and surrounding areas has been suspended. The ministry said the area remains on heightened alert and will be constantly reassessed.
Heightened alert to remain in place
The ministry said that despite the end of the evacuation status, the area remains on heightened alert and the situation will be constantly reassessed, with the aim of taking timely measures should a new need arise.
Local officials informed
The ministry added that the mayor of Kourion and the deputy mayor of Akrotiri have already been informed about the decision.
Background to the evacuation order
The suspension follows an evacuation order that was issued for 11 days after a suspected Hezbollah drone attack earlier this month.
Patrols to continue
The ministry said civil defence teams will continue their patrols in the area.
