Man, 58, arrested after fatal motorcycle collision on Nicosia-Limassol motorway

Skarinou, Cyprus. Police have arrested a 58-year-old man in connection with a fatal road collision on the Nicosia-Limassol motorway near Skarinou that killed 61-year-old motorcyclist Christos Siailos on Sunday morning.


Arrest made after fatal crash

According to Larnaca police spokesman Spyros Chrysostomou, an arrest warrant was issued against the 58-year-old rider, who is believed to have been involved in the collision. He was arrested on Sunday afternoon.

Victim was travelling with motorcycle group

The victim, Christos Siailos from Yeri, was part of a group of ten motorcyclists travelling together and was riding near the rear of the convoy.

Police outline circumstances of collision

Police said that, based on evidence gathered so far, Siailos attempted to avoid a dog on the roadway after it had been struck by a passing vehicle. He reportedly lost control of his motorcycle and was thrown onto the road surface.

According to investigators, the motorcyclist riding at the back of the group was unable to react in time after Siailos fell onto the carriageway and subsequently struck him with his motorcycle.

Investigation continues

Police officers and paramedics rushed to the scene, but the 61-year-old succumbed to his injuries.

Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the fatal collision are ongoing.
