According to a report by Politis, fears are growing that airlines may introduce significant reductions in flight schedules if tensions between Iran, the United States, and Israel persist, with possible consequences for Cyprus’ tourism sector.
Business turnover down in Ayia Napa and Protaras
Petros Assias, a representative of the Famagusta hospitality venues association, told the Cypriot daily that business turnover in Ayia Napa and Protaras is down compared to the same periods in the previous two years. He said uncertainty is being compounded by the lack of any clear prospect for a permanent ceasefire in the Middle East.
April and early May revenues reported lower
Assias said most venues in the two resorts have reopened, but revenues for April and early May have been disappointing, with an average decline of between 30 per cent and 35 per cent compared to last year. He said some businesses are seeing drops exceeding 35 per cent, while others report declines below 30 per cent, depending on their location.
Visitor patterns and outlook for summer
Assias said weekends see some activity from domestic visitors, while during weekdays establishments rely mainly on foreign tourists, primarily from the United Kingdom and Poland, though in relatively low numbers. He said concerns extend beyond current conditions to the summer months and that the negative impact on local businesses could intensify if the situation persists.
