Paphos, Cyprus. Police have arrested the father of a three-year-old boy who died after falling from the fourth floor of a hotel in the Paphos district on Sunday evening. The circumstances of the fatal fall remain under investigation.
Arrest and court appearance
The 37-year-old father was arrested at 10.15pm on Sunday on suspicion of causing death by a reckless, negligent or dangerous act, neglect of duty as the head of a family, and failing in his responsibility as a person having care of another.
He is expected to appear before the Paphos district court on Monday morning, where police will seek his remand in custody to facilitate ongoing investigations.
Fatal fall
The incident occurred at about 6pm on Sunday while the child was staying at a hotel in the Paphos district with his parents. The boy fell from the building’s fourth floor.
Police were informed at 6.40pm. The child had already been taken by ambulance to Paphos general hospital, where he was pronounced dead despite doctors’ efforts.
Post-mortem and investigation
A post-mortem examination was scheduled for 12pm on Monday at the Nicosia mortuary. It will be conducted by forensic pathologists Angeliki Papetta and Orthodoxos Orthodoxou.
The scene remains cordoned off as investigators examine the circumstances surrounding the fall. Police investigations are ongoing.
