Nicosia, Cyprus. The creation of an electronic platform intended to help authorities prevent and respond to incidents of violence more quickly was discussed on Tuesday at a meeting chaired by Justice Minister Costas Fitiris.
The proposed system is designed to improve coordination among services handling violence cases, enable early identification of warning signs and support faster intervention.
Platform proposal
The meeting was the second held on the proposed platform. Participants included the data protection commissioner, the commissioner for gender equality, and representatives of the education ministry, the deputy ministry of social welfare, social welfare services and the police.
Officials examined a preliminary proposal on the platform’s structure and operation.
Information exchange and safeguards
The platform would allow relevant services to exchange necessary information through clear procedures while protecting victims and people considered at risk.
Discussions also covered technical and legal matters, including data protection, security measures and compliance with the General Data Protection Regulation.
Separate statistical system
The justice ministry said the initiative is separate from a system being developed to collect statistics on violence against women and domestic violence as part of Cyprus’ European obligations.
