Washington, United States. The Federal Communications Commission requested transcripts of Bad Bunny’s Super Bowl halftime show performance from Comcast’s NBC after a Republican lawmaker suggested it could violate federal indecency regulations, an FCC commissioner said Wednesday.
Transcript request and FCC review
FCC Commissioner Anna Gomez said she reviewed the transcripts of the performance, which was largely in Spanish, after learning the commission had requested them. Gomez said she found no violation of FCC rules and no justification for harassing broadcasters over a standard live performance.
Comcast, NBC and the FCC did not immediately comment.
Lawmaker complaint
Representative Randy Fine, a Republican, suggested Bad Bunny used expletives in Spanish during the performance and urged Carr to impose fines and conduct broadcast license reviews.
Reported outcome and additional reaction
The New York Post reported the performance did not include some lyrics containing graphic sexual references and that the FCC does not plan to review the matter further barring additional evidence, citing a source familiar with the matter.
President Donald Trump, in a social media post after the Feb. 8 halftime show, criticized the Puerto Rican superstar and said the show being mostly in Spanish was “an affront to the Greatness of America” and a “slap in the face” to the country. Trump wrote that “Nobody understands a word this guy is saying,” and called the dancing “disgusting” and unsuitable for children.
What do you think the FCC’s role should be in assessing live halftime show performances for indecency concerns?
