Ministries of Justice and Transport have come up with a new penalty system proposal.
According to Filelefteros newspaper, driving under the influence of alcohol will be penalized with a fine up to 15 thousand euro or imprisonment for the period up to 4 years. As well as maximum blood alcohol concentration limit will be reduced.
Failure to provide assistance to the victim in an accident will be penalized with an imprisonment for the period up to 10 years or fine up to 30 thousand euro.
Driving through a red light will impose fine of 200 euro.
Penalties for non-use of seat belt, as well as fines for using a mobile phone while driving will increase to 300 euro. Also, fines for parking violations will increase significantly.
Cases of refusal to pay the fine will be examined by the court.
New set of rules is yet to be approved by the Council of Ministers and the Parliament.
