During the weekend, the fire in the vicinity of Nicosia destroyed pines and walnut trees. According to the Department of Agriculture, the fire started in the Lithodrontas region near Nicosia.
The village is well-known for its forest, rivers, water dam and olive orchards. Due to the close distance ot the mountains, the fires in that region are especially dangerous.
17 firefighters and 6 fire engines were sent to resolve the situation, who were able to take the situation under control after 25 minutes.
