Paphos, Cyprus. A fire broke out on Tuesday afternoon in a steep area near Kallepia in the Paphos district, burning 10 hectares of dry grass, wild vegetation and waste materials. The fire was brought under control later that evening, according to the fire brigade.
Fire response
The fire brigade said it received the call at 6.20pm and dispatched four fire engines to the scene. The fire was placed under control at 7.51pm.
Support in firefighting operation
The game fund, the Kallepia community council and volunteer groups Atlas and Blue Heart contributed to the firefighting operation. The air firefighting squadron was placed on alert, but aerial assistance was not required.
Suspected origin
The fire brigade said it believes the fire started at the side of a rural road near an illegal dump.
Daily incident total
Between 6am on Tuesday and 6am on Wednesday, the fire brigade responded to 32 calls for help, including 15 fires, 14 special services and three false alarms.
