London, United Kingdom. Five Metropolitan Police officers were injured after a police boat struck Westminster Bridge in central London on Friday. Officers who entered the water were rescued, police said.
Emergency response
The vessel, operated by the Metropolitan Police’s Marine Policing Unit, hit the bridge at about 3.40pm local time, or 5.40pm Cyprus time.
Additional police officers and other emergency services responded to the scene. The Port of London Authority said it was also supporting the response.
Injuries under assessment
Police said five officers were receiving treatment and that an update on the extent of their injuries was awaited.
The force said it did not believe any members of the public were involved or injured.
Review planned
The incident took place near the Houses of Parliament, where crowds of onlookers watched from the bridge.
Police said the circumstances of the incident would be thoroughly reviewed.
