Larnaca, Cyprus. A 24-year-old Israeli football fan was fined €1,200 on Friday after pleading guilty to participating in clashes outside the AEK Arena. He paid the fine immediately after appearing before Larnaca District Court.
Stadium clashes
The disturbances occurred before kick-off, when supporters of AEK Larnaca and Beitar Jerusalem became involved in clashes outside the stadium.
Police intervened to prevent the violence from escalating, deploying the anti-riot water cannon vehicle Aiantas (Ajax) and increasing their presence around the venue. The situation was brought under control and the match went ahead as scheduled.
Investigation continues
Reports said a group of Beitar Jerusalem supporters moved towards a nearby parking area, where they encountered AEK supporters and fighting broke out.
Police are examining CCTV footage and witness statements to identify all those involved.
Damage to rental car
The incidents followed tensions involving Beitar Jerusalem supporters near the Larnaca port roundabout, where police intervened and used smoke bombs to disperse a crowd.
A South Korean tourist couple reported that their legally parked rental car near the stadium was damaged during the disorder. They said they faced substantial repair costs and expressed concern that peaceful tourists could suffer violence and financial losses in public spaces during football events.
