Koma tou Yialou, Cyprus. A 46-year-old man died on Friday after a 2,500-tonne grain silo collapsed in the Karpas peninsula village of Koma tou Yialou.
Lokman Hacihasanoglu was rescued alive from beneath the rubble by Turkish Cypriot civil defence and fire brigade teams and taken to a nearby hospital, where he later died.
Investigation launched
The silo belonged to the Turkish Cypriot publicly owned agricultural products corporation and collapsed at around 12.15pm.
Turkish Cypriot police have launched an investigation into the circumstances of the collapse.
