Germany says Kazakh crude deliveries to PCK Schwedt may stop from May, supply not at risk

Berlin, Germany. Germany’s Economy Ministry said it has been informed that no Kazakh crude oil may reach the northeastern PCK Schwedt refinery from May, but that petroleum product production was not at risk.

Ministry statement on potential delivery halt

The ministry said on Wednesday that Schwedt’s majority owner, Rosneft ROSN.MM, had informed it about the step, adding that the Russian government had not yet confirmed it.

Industry sources cite Druzhba pipeline stoppage

Three industry sources told Reuters on Tuesday that Russia is set to stop oil exports from Kazakhstan via the Druzhba pipeline starting from May 1, which would directly hit PCK, one of Germany’s biggest refineries and a supplier to Berlin.

Rosneft Deutschland assessing implications

“Rosneft Deutschland is currently assessing the implications and will adapt to any new situation,” the Economy Ministry said, adding that Rosneft Deutschland was aware of its responsibility to the region and would fulfil its obligations.

The ministry said existing options would be used to ensure security of supply in Germany and that the absence of Kazakh oil deliveries to the refinery did not ultimately jeopardise the security of supply of petroleum products in Germany.

Rosneft Deutschland was not immediately available for comment.
