Heraklion, Greece. A 45-year-old grandfather was arrested in Heraklion, Crete, following the death of his 18-month-old granddaughter, who died in hospital despite extensive efforts by doctors to save her life. Authorities said medical staff attempted to resuscitate the child for 48 minutes on Friday night but were unable to revive her.
Hospital treatment
According to Cretalive, medical staff at the University General Hospital of Heraklion (PAGNI) treated the girl after her grandfather brought her to the facility on Friday evening.
Child’s condition
The infant, who was of Roma descent, had been unwell for the previous few days. Police sources said she had been examined by a pediatrician several days earlier and had been prescribed treatment.
Transfer to hospital
Her condition later worsened, and her 45-year-old grandfather, who had been caring for her because her parents work outside Crete, took her to the University Hospital.
Medical findings
Medical staff found that the child presented a septic clinical image.
