Iran’s Assembly of Experts appoints new Supreme Leader after Khamenei’s death

Tehran, Iran. Iran’s Assembly of Experts has appointed a new Supreme Leader to succeed Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who was killed on February 28 during U.S.-Israeli strikes. Assembly members confirmed the appointment on Sunday but did not identify the person selected.

Confirmation without naming the appointee

Members of the Assembly of Experts confirmed that a successor has been chosen but declined to name the individual appointed to the role.

Statement cited by Isna

According to the Isna news agency, the announcement was confirmed by Mohsen Heydari, the Assembly’s representative for Khuzestan province.

Selection process concluded

“The most suitable candidate, approved by the majority of the Assembly of Experts, has been appointed,” Heydari said, adding that the internal selection process has concluded.

What do you think the Assembly’s decision not to name the new Supreme Leader means for public understanding of the transition?
