Larnaca court renews remands for four men in terror-related case

Larnaca, Cyprus. Four men accused of terror-related offences were handed renewed remands by the Larnaca district court during closed-door hearings on Sunday. Two of the men are linked to large quantities of materials that could be used to make explosives, while the other two are alleged to be their associates.

Remands renewed

The two main suspects, aged 38 and 32, will remain in custody for four more days. The other two men, aged 57 and 54, are alleged by police to be associates of the pair.

Police investigation

Police said one of the two main suspects admitted that they intended to target Israeli nationals. Investigators are also examining whether the pair were collaborating with other individuals in Cyprus.

Suspects’ status and alleged links

According to police, the 32-year-old had been living in Cyprus for the last few years and is linked to two premises where the materials were found.

Police said the 38-year-old was in Cyprus without the required residence documents and that they believe he initially entered the island via the north.

Discovery of materials

The materials were first discovered at a residential property near Governor’s Beach on May 21. A further quantity of similar materials was found two days later in a second-floor flat in Larnaca.
