Levon Arakelian outlines Cyprus settlement parameters in new book

Nicosia, Cyprus. Lawyer Levon Arakelian has published a book setting out what he describes as the basic parameters for a comprehensive settlement of the Cyprus problem.

Six areas of discussion

The book, “The basic parameters of the comprehensive settlement of the Cyprus problem”, examines six areas related to the Cyprus problem and negotiations aimed at reaching a settlement.

These include the conditions surrounding a solution and the negotiations required, the governance of Cyprus after a settlement, the territory administered by each constituent state, the island’s future demographic balance, security and property.

Negotiating team role

Arakelian is an advisor to the Greek Cypriot side’s Cyprus problem negotiating team. He accompanied President Nikos Christodoulides to the first of two enlarged Cyprus problem meetings held last year in Geneva, Switzerland.

Legal career

Outside Cyprus problem negotiations, Arakelian is a partner at the Chryssafinis and Polyviou law firm.

He also advised Polys Polyviou during an inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the deadly 2011 explosion at the Evangelos Florakis naval base in Mari.
