Limassol, Cyprus. Police are investigating a suspected case of electronic fraud after a Limassol online services company reported that 176,580 cryptocurrencies had been stolen from its accounts.
Complaint and alleged method
Police are investigating a complaint filed by the company’s director after an email was sent to the company’s computers on Thursday inviting employees to follow a specific link. An employee allegedly followed the link, resulting in the transfer of cryptocurrencies from the company’s account.
Reported loss
In total, 176,580 cryptocurrencies appear to have been transferred from the company’s portfolio.
Investigation
The case was reported to authorities on Friday, and the Limassol financial crime investigation unit is investigating.
