Livestock farmers association heads to Pachna to oppose further animal culling amid foot-and-mouth outbreak

Pachna, Cyprus. Members of the newly formed livestock farmers association The Voice of Livestock Breeders headed to Pachna on Thursday to prevent the culling of further animals amid the latest foot-and-mouth disease outbreak in the area.

Association opposes further culling

Association president Neophytos Neophytou told Sigma that the group would “stand up to the killings.”

Concerns over unanswered questions

Neophytou alleged that farmers had been left without answers, including what would happen if new animals being raised became infected with the virus.

Claims about impact on livestock numbers

“The virus exists and will not go away. We simply destroyed our animals. We have almost fewer animals in the free areas than in the occupied ones,” he said.

What do you think should happen if newly raised animals become infected with the virus?
