Limassol, Cyprus. Police said on Sunday that a 29-year-old man was arrested in connection with the suspected arson of a vehicle in Limassol, with investigators indicating the intended target may have been the owner’s granddaughter.

Fire reported in early hours

Authorities said the fire broke out in the early hours of Wednesday at around 2am, involving a car belonging to an 81-year-old woman that was parked outside a relative’s residence. Fire brigade crews attended and extinguished the blaze, which caused damage to the vehicle.

Arrest made under court warrant

Police said the arrest was carried out under a court warrant as part of an ongoing investigation into the incident. During enquiries, evidence emerged linking the 29-year-old suspect to the case, leading to his detention.

Investigators cite possible intended target

Police said the vehicle was being used by the elderly woman’s granddaughter, who is also 29, and that she appears to have been the intended target. The suspect remains in custody as investigations continue.
