Nicosia, Cyprus. More than 750 Cypriot professionals worldwide have registered with the government’s Minds in Cyprus platform, while employers in Cyprus have posted more than 400 specialised job vacancies, officials said during the world conference of overseas Cypriots.
The platform has also received more than 300 enquiries, proposals and suggestions from members of the Cypriot diaspora since its launch.
Initiative progress
Head of the Office of the Deputy Minister to the President Irene Georgalla said Minds in Cyprus had developed within a year from a strategic announcement into a policy aimed at strengthening links between the diaspora and Cyprus’ economy, labour market and development strategy.
The initiative was announced by President Nikos Christodoulides in London in May 2025. It is being implemented jointly by the relevant ministries, Invest Cyprus and Keve, under the coordination of the Presidency.
Development and talent strategy
Georgalla said the initiative seeks to reconnect the international experience and expertise of Cypriots living abroad with Cyprus’ development model, which is based on knowledge, outward-looking growth and the creation of high value-added economic activity.
“Attracting and reconnecting talent requires consistency, continuity and, above all, national credibility,” she said.
She said Cyprus was operating amid geopolitical tensions, rapid technological advances driven by artificial intelligence and strong international competition for skilled professionals.
“Talent does not follow economic growth alone, but also trust, stable rules and a clear sense of direction,” Georgalla said.
Economic sectors
Georgalla said the information technology, communications and digital economy sector contributes about 14 per cent of Cyprus’ gross domestic product.
She added that the country’s research and innovation ecosystem includes 12 universities and more than 15 research institutes and centres of excellence, while professional, financial and technology services continue to upgrade and create opportunities for highly skilled professionals.
