Motorcyclists are in high-risk group

The statistics, which is tracked by the Cyprus Road Police, shows that 50% of the lethal road accidents during this year involved the motorcyclists.

During the next week, the police plans to start large scale campaign to reduce the number of accidents which involves that category of drivers.

The special attention will be made to the compulsory wearing of the helmets, due to the fact that 64% fatalities happen because passengers are not wearing them. 7 out of 10 accidents with motorcyclists happened due to the fault of the car drivers, who undercut the motorcycles.

Also 4 main reason for the fatalities were established: drinking and driving, exceeding the speed limits, omission to use safety belts and not wearing the safety helmets by the motorcyclists.
