Nicosia Municipal Theatre launches summer theatre school for children

Nicosia, Cyprus. The Nicosia Municipal Theatre is launching its first Summer Theatre School, titled The City as a Stage – Theatre Routes in Nicosia, for children aged 6 to 12. The programme will run from July 6 to 10 and July 13 to 17, using the city as a setting for theatre education and cultural exploration.

Programme structure

The summer school will run daily from 7.30am to 2.30pm. It will turn museums, gardens, historic landmarks and public squares in Nicosia into starting points for stories, characters and theatrical activities.

Theatre education and city exploration

Using the Nicosia Municipal Theatre as its central hub, the programme will introduce participants to the operation of a modern theatre and the professionals involved in stage productions. Workshops will focus on expression, improvisation, movement and voice, showing children how theatrical ideas are developed into performances.

Cultural visits

The programme will include daily visits to nearby cultural sites, including the Cyprus Museum, Paphos Gate, Kasteliotissa Hall and the Nicosia Municipal Gardens. Through games, exploration and creative challenges, participants will turn their observations into theatrical scenes and engage with public spaces and local heritage.

Workshops will be led in Greek by professionals from theatre, dance, music, education and history under the design and coordination of theatre creative Natalia Panayiotou. Sessions will be led by Nasia Kelepeshi, Elena Antoniou, Natalia Panayiotou, Konstantina Xenofontos, Loukia Pieridou, Iliana Koulafeti of People of Cyprus, Annie Sofocleous and OPU Collective.
