Nicosia, Cyprus. More than 100 drivers were reported for speeding during a nationwide police operation conducted on Tuesday night, police said on Wednesday. The operation also resulted in 10 arrests, 293 traffic citations and the impounding of 13 vehicles.
Traffic and premises checks
Police stopped 525 vehicles and checked 681 occupants during preventive checks carried out across the island.
Officers also inspected 45 premises as part of efforts to tackle criminal activity, resulting in three reports.
Traffic offences
A total of 293 traffic citations were issued for various offences, while 15 traffic-related cases remain under investigation.
Of the violations recorded, 106 concerned speeding. Police carried out 165 alcohol breath tests, with eight drivers reported for exceeding the legal limit.
Five preliminary drug tests were also conducted, one of which returned a positive result.
Arrests
The operation led to the arrest of 10 people for various offences, including illegal drug possession and unlawful stay.
Police said the checks formed part of ongoing preventive measures to improve road safety and tackle crime.
