Pavlos Kontides returns to world number one in ILCA7 rankings

Kaštela, Croatia. Pavlos Kontides has returned to the top of the ILCA7 world rankings for the sixth time following a strong run of results, led by his European Championship victory in Croatia. The latest update puts him back at number one less than a year after he last held the position.

Ranking return

Kontides, a two-time Olympic silver medallist, had previously held world number one status on five separate occasions between 2018 and 2025. His latest rise moves him ahead of Britain’s Michael Beckett, who has dropped to second place.

European title decisive

His climb back to the top of the standings was driven by his European Championship title in Kaštela, near Split, which proved decisive in the latest rankings update.

Upcoming schedule

Kontides is currently based in Ireland as he continues preparations for the World Championships in Dún Laoghaire in August, where he will compete in a small fleet racing event.

Build-up to 2028 Olympics

He is also scheduled to compete in additional events in Los Angeles, including the North American Championship and the Los Angeles Grand Slam, as part of his preparation for the 2028 Olympic Games.
